RI teams 1 and 2 have clinched 1st and 3rd positions respectively for the NUS-NTU Astrochallenge 2008!
RI Team 1 comprises: Aaron Tang, Huang Wenjie, Nathanael Wong, Tang Huiyao and Zhong Zhiheng.
RI Team 2 comprises: Dewin Goh, Joel Kek, Haran Kumar, Kevin Kwek and Gerald Sng.
On top of this, RI Team 1 also clinched 1st place for the project round held last Friday.
The team of Tang Huiyao, Vincent Tjeng, and Kang Zi Yang, swiped the Championship position for the Quiz Section, maintaining RI’s impeccable record of first places since the inauguration of the competition.
The team of Kwa Jie Hao, Matthew Lee and Norman Fong achieved third place for the Motor Category, while the team of Ernest Aw, Joel Kek, and Tony Li achieved second place for the Kaleidoscope Round.
RI’s team represented by Joel Kek, Gerald Sng, Lim Huan Hock and Daryl Wong came in first in the Shell Eco Challenge which took place today from 9 - 5pm. They have won $600 cash, $200 petrol voucher and a trophy. Congratulations to the team.

Good news from VJC - RI has defeated the defending champions River Valley High to become champions of the VJC Science Quiz 2008!
Coming in individual 6th was Vincent Tjeng.
Coming in individual 2nd was Nigel Fong.
And coming in individual first was Daniel Lim.

On 14th March 2008, Friday, from 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm, the Astronomie et Physique Appliquée [sic] of the French-Singapore Institute (FSI) at Nanyang Polytechnic is hosting the 11th Annual Nanyang Polytechnic Astronomy Competition 2008.
The Competition this year consists of 2 parts. Each participant should bring 2 pencils or pens, ruler, eraser and a scientific calculator.
Part A) 12.30 pm: Advanced Astronomy Competition - Up to 2 students from each school will do a small written (physics and mathematical) project [sic] for two hours. Some knowledge of calculus (differentiation) and graphing is required.
Part B) 1.30 pm: Team Astronomy Competition - An one-hour multiple choice Astronomy Quiz. A maximum of 8 Students (minimum of 4) from each school can participate in the Team Competition. The best 4 students’ scores will be compiled for each team. The top 6 teams of the multiple choice Astronomy Quiz will be competing in the final round of Oral Astronomy Quiz. Teams are advised to arrive 45 minutes early for registration.

Dr Phil Chan, an NUS Physics lecturer highly respected in the field of astrophysics and astronomy, will be organising a star gazing session on the 29th of February, from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm at the NUS Football Field. This is a rare opportunity and might serve as a good warm up for the Astronomy competitions later. Interested members should contact the Science Club EXCO.
In the Bridge Building Competition held in Ngee Ann Polytechnic on the 17th of January, 2008, the team comprising Lim Huan Hock, Lin Sen, Chua Kok Peng, and Li Kewei fought hard and achieved third place.
The Ngee Ann Polytechnic Grand Olympiad, currently in its 6th year, is a series of competitions organised by the Ngee Ann Polytechnic School of Engineering for Secondary Schools nationwide. This year, RI plans to send in teams for 4 competitions in the Grand Olympiad:

For the D.A.R.T Challenge, participants are required to participate in a workshop, the last of which will be held on 11th January. Although the timings of the competitions do not clash, note that some of them are held during school hours. More details have been sent to the RISC e-group.
